The Level 3 Award in Business Management for the Environment and Land-Based Sector will commence on Monday 4 February 2026, offering learners the chance to gain industry-focused business expertise that supports growth and sustainability.

The City & Guilds accredited qualification runs over twelve weeks and combines flexible learning with practical application. Delivery will include in-person sessions at CAFRE’s Greenmount and Enniskillen campuses, supported by online learning via Microsoft Teams. The programme is designed to fit around the schedules of working professionals and apprentices, with ten weeks of teaching and two study weeks to allow time for reflection and assignment completion.

Laura Smith, Senior Equine Technologist at CAFRE, explained:“This course is a fantastic opportunity for professionals in Equine, Floristry and Horticulture to develop the business skills that underpin successful enterprises. By combining sector-specific knowledge with practical business management, we’re helping learners future-proof their careers.”

The qualification is open to Equine and Horticulture industry participants, including business owners, managers, and freelancers who want to upskill and enhance their business acumen. Floristry Apprentices will also complete this qualification as part of their Apprenticeship programme, ensuring they gain essential business knowledge alongside technical skills.

Throughout the course, learners will explore topics such as business structure and organisation, strategic planning, marketing and customer service, financial management and budgeting, legal compliance, and sustainability in land-based industries. Each module is designed to provide practical insights that can be applied directly to real-world business challenges.

Lori Hartman, Senior Horticulture Adviser at CAFRE, highlighted the benefits for land-based businesses:

“Successful businesses are built upon adaptable enterprises that can thrive in a competitive marketplace. This qualification gives participants the tools to plan strategically, manage resources effectively, and operate in an environment where efficiency and innovation are key.”

There are no formal entry requirements, although applicants should have relevant industry experience and suitable literacy and numeracy skills. Assessment is through written assignments completed during the course, leading to the award of a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification, a recognised credential that demonstrates strong business management capability.
