When Vivek Oberoi turned to entrepreneurship because movies were not paying well: ‘I wasn’t getting film offers…’ | Hindi Movie News
Vivek Oberoi is celebrating his birthday today (September 3). He made a strong entry into the film industry in 2002 with Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Company’ and quickly gained popularity. Over the years, he delivered impressive performances in films like ‘Saathiya’, ‘Omkara’, and ‘Rakht Charitra’. However, he also faced setbacks with films such as ‘Prince’, ‘Kyun! Hogaya Na’, and ‘Naksha’, which did not perform well at the box office. The actor once shared that he explored entrepreneurship when he could not earn a decent remuneration from movies.
Vivek tied the knot with Priyanka Alva on October 29, 2010, and the couple has a son and a daughter. Despite his talent, Vivek isn’t as active in acting as some of his peers. In an interview with Indian Express, Vivek opened up about how he turned to entrepreneurship when his acting career hit a rough patch.

He shared that despite his success in Bollywood, he faced challenges when film offers began to dry up. Acting was his main source of income, which he relied on to support his household, charitable foundation, and staff. The pressure of not getting roles despite proving his skills led him to explore other avenues to sustain his lifestyle. “I wasn’t getting film offers, which was my main source of income. I was using that money to run my household, support my charitable foundation, pay my staff, and more,” he mentioned.
Vivek explained that his involvement in philanthropy, such as running a school in Vrindavan and helping cancer patients, became challenging when his movie income dwindled. Determined to sustain these efforts without seeking financial help from others, he turned to business. He ventured into real estate and founded several companies, including successful tech startups. Today, Vivek has invested in around 29 companies.

In a recent interaction on the Dubai-based podcast AB Talks, Vivek shared his thoughts on success and failure in Bollywood, saying, “Whether in Bollywood or any field, I’ve experienced both great success and failure.” He shared advice from his father, emphasizing that while acting itself is not a failure, not all attempts may succeed. He stressed that if something doesn’t work out, it’s important to move on. According to him, true failure comes from giving up and stopping the effort.
On the work front, Vivek Oberoi is set to reunite with Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani for the fourth installment of the popular comedy film ‘Masti’. The movie is directed by Milap Zaveri.
