A National Grid worker was electrocuted early Thursday during an incident at a job site in Medford.The 35-year-old man was working alone in an electrical box at the end of a parking lot on Salem Street near a condominium complex when the incident happened. Medford fire and EMS performed lifesaving measures at the scene before the victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Three Medford police officers who were working a detail at the time were also taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The officers were treated and released.”Our immediate priority is ensuring we are doing everything we can to support this employee’s family and colleagues. We therefore will not be sharing any additional information at this time,” National Grid said in a statement.The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Medford and state police are investigating. A man who lives in the area said crews were working at the site all day Wednesday, and a generator was brought in to keep power on in the apartment building. “I woke up about 3 a.m. to do some work, and then the power just got cut, and I was like, ‘Wait what’s happening?'” the resident said. The Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said since his death was accidental, it would not be releasing the man’s name.
